I’m Sufia, the SRC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs! I’m in my third year of Secondary Education and Social Studies, coming from Montreal, Quebec.
I’m so excited to be your Vice-President of Academic Affairs this year, serving last year as the SRC’s Equity Representative working on projects such as the creation of the SRC’s standing committee on Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and reviewing policies and practices from an EDI lens. Parallel to that role on the SRC, I also served as Co-Chair of the Joint Senate and Board Task Force on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and represented the student voice, advocating for their interests on this body. In my first and second years, I was involved with the Joan Stadelman Fellowship for Student Success, which was my start in working in the realm of student success, which is a key facet of my job as VP Academic.
My approach to this role includes 3 main pillars: Equity, Advocacy, and Empowerment. I aim to ensure all students have full and equal access to the university and its opportunities and that you feel empowered in your educational experience. I oversee the student success centre including peer academic mentors and peer tutors, as well as represent the student body on the university senate. Anything academic is my business!
I am always happy to hear from students with any ideas, questions, concerns or other so don’t hesitate to reach out anytime!
