We acknowledge that the land on which Bishop’s University operates is the stolen land called W8banakiak wdakiw8k . The Bishop’s Students’ Representative Council recognizes as settlers on this land; we are grateful for its opportunities. We currently gather, work, live, and play on this land, home to resilient Indigenous people still living. It’s critical to remember the ongoing systemic oppression First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities still face today. We will continue to educate ourselves and the Bishop’s community about the truth of the stolen lands we reside on and how to become better allies. Beyond education, it’s our responsibility to take accountability, listen and take concrete steps for change.

Nous reconnaissons que le territoire sur lequel l’Université Bishop’s est situé est une terre non cédée, appelée W8banakiak wdakiw8k. En tant que personnes issues de l’immigration sur cette terre, nous sommes reconnaissants des opportunités qu’elle nous offre. Nous nous rassemblons, travaillons, vivons et divertissons actuellement sur ce territoire, qui abrite des peuples autochtones résilients qui y vivent encore. Il est essentiel de se rappeler l’oppression systémique continue à laquelle les communautés des Premières Nations, des Métis et des Inuits font face aujourd’hui. Nous continuerons à nous éduquer, ainsi que la communauté de Bishop’s, sur la vérité historique de ces terres et sur la manière de devenir de meilleurs alliés. Au-delà de l’éducation, il est de notre devoir d’écouter et de poser des gestes concrets pour le changement.
