Title: Vice President Academic Affairs (the “VPAA”)
Department: Students’ Representative Council (“BUSRC”, or the “SRC”)
Term of Office: May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023
Expected Hours: 25 hours per week
Salary: $12,485 annually, paid in biweekly installments
Description:
As an elected member of the SRC Executive Council (President, VP Student Life, VP External Affairs, Director of Finance, Director of Events and Director of Communications & Marketing), the Vice-President Academic Affairs is a voting member of the Board of Student Representatives and the Executive Council of the SRC. The VPAA oversees the Academic Affairs team, which is comprised of six Student Senators representing the five academic divisions at Bishop’s University, as well as a graduate student senator. The VPAA assists with the operations of the Student Success Centre, which includes the Student Success Manager, peer academic mentors and tutoring services. The VPAA is a voting member on the Bishop’s University Senate, and various Senate committees. The VPAA shall also sit on the Admissions Policy and Academic Standing Committee, as well as the Senate Planning Committee and assign a representative, themselves or a senator, to any other Senate committee.
Requirements:
- Must be a full-time or part-time degree student at Bishop’s University, enrolled for 2022-23
- Must be present at Bishop’s University from May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023
Nature of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage six student senators and the day-to-day functions of the Academic Affairs office.
- Organize and chair meetings with the six student senators to discuss agenda items and discuss how to best represent students prior to the SRC Board of Student Representatives (BSR) meetings and the Bishop’s University Senate meetings.
- Report to the SRC any actions, decisions and discussions of Senate.
- Consult with the members of the SRC Executive Council on the direction and policies of the SRC.
- Raise awareness of academic initiatives occurring on campus.
- Sit on various committees, including but not limited to:
- Academic Standing and Admissions Policy Committee
- Senate Planning Committee
- Teaching and Learning Centre Initiative
- Assign designates to various committees, including but not limited to:
- Academic Appeals Committee
- Academic Integrity Committee
- Academic Review Committee
- Ad Hoc Committee of Senate on Education for Sustainable Development at Bishop’s
- Continuing Education Committee
- E-Learning Sub-Committee
- Experiential Learning Committee
- Graduate Studies Committee
- Institutional Repository Committee
- Ombudsperson Selection Committee
- Research Ethics Committee (Policy on the Responsible Conduct of Research)

- Organize and facilitate academic events occurring on campus, including academic debates.
- Be responsible for addressing student academic complaints to the SRC and ensure they are adequately resolved.
- Act as the liaison between the membership and the BSR for academic matters.
- Act as the academic policy advisor to the BSR.
- Assist with the operations of the Student Success Centre.
- Collaborate with the Director of Events and academic administration to plan and execute academic events during Orientation Week, including Academic Orientation.
- Meet regularly with key members of administration and maintain a general understanding of university policies and current initiatives.
- Coordinate one student forum and one student survey each academic year to solicit their opinions and hear their complaints.
- Support all other SRC members in the planning, management, and execution of their responsibilities.
- The VPAA must actively participate in training the newly-elected VPAA during the winter semester and must submit an end-of-year report to the BSR at the final meeting of the year.
