Job summary: The Director of Communications & Engagement will play a key role in providing the Bishop’s University Students’ Representative Council (BUSRC) with a consistent communications and student engagement strategy that encompasses social media platforms, website, written and visual content for the organization. The Director will manage a small, student-driven communications team that focuses on marketing SRC initiatives, services, operations, events, elections, and advocacy.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an affinity for Bishop’s University and an understanding of how the BUSRC operates. Candidates must possess strong leadership, organizational, and management skills. The successful candidate enjoys working in a team environment, is a self-starter, highly motivated, results-driven, and has a solid background in communication and marketing.
The nature of this position will require the Director of Communications and Engagement to work some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Familiarity with design tools (Adobe Suite, Canva) and social media analytics
- Experience in event planning and stakeholder engagement.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous academic or work experience in communication and marketing strategies.
- Excellent written and oral English and French.
- Creativity and adaptability.

- Photography, and videography editing and production skills an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & Marketing
- Develop and implement a communications plan to promote SRC programs, services, and advocacy initiatives.
- Lead the content creation and planning for publicity campaigns, (digital signage, website, e-blasts, and in-person engagement.
- Develop and maintain processes to provide accurate and timely information to students and other stakeholders.
- Improve and implement communications policies to reflect SRC practices.
- Utilize strong writing skills, both formal and informal, as a tool to develop content and facilitate storytelling.
- Provide overall direction and support for all communication and student engagement strategies of the SRC, including those associated with SRC Extra, the Student Success Centre and The Gait
- Oversee the SRC’s website design and content.
- Manage e-newsletters.
- Produce the student handbook and oversee production of the yearbook.
- Investigate and determine effective ways to reach students and use these means to share information on a regular basis.
- Work with the Marketing manager to develop and execute marketing strategies to drive engagement in SRC elections.
Brand & Identity
- Maintain and enhance the SRC’s brand identity and communications toolbox.
- Oversee design and production of marketing materials for events and campaigns, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines.
Student Engagement
- Plan and execute engagement campaigns to increase student awareness and participation.
- Organize events, campaigns, and outreach activities that foster inclusivity and participation.
- Gather feedback from students to inform SRC initiatives.
Event Promotion
- Develop marketing strategies for SRC events, elections, and advocacy campaigns.
- Work closely with event organizers to maximize attendance and visibility.
Digital & Social Media
- Manage the SRC’s social media presence (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube).
- Develop and implement a social media strategy to engage students through the SRC’s social media accounts as well as providing direction and support for social media accounts associated with SRC services.
- Monitor analytics and engagement metrics to optimize communication strategies, improve engagement and adapt efforts to better serve the diverse needs of Bishop’s students.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with internal and communications partners (i.e. The Campus, the University’s Communications department, Alumni Office, Sports Centre, The Record, etc.) to support organizational priorities and campaigns.
- Supervise communications staff and volunteers.
Compensation and benefits:
- $22-28 per hour, based on education and experience.
