Hey Gaiters!
On behalf of the entire SRC, I extend a warm welcome to you, whether you’re embarking on your first year or returning for another exciting chapter. As your president for the upcoming school year, it’s my responsibility to represent your interests in all aspects of student life at Bishop’s, both within the campus community and to external stakeholders. Our mission is to access, advocate, and act on behalf of students’ interests to foster an exceptional university experience.
I decided to run for president this year because I wanted the opportunity to help create and share those moments that make Bishop’s such a unique post-secondary adventure. Hailing from the small town of Southampton, Ontario, located on the shores of Lake Huron, I earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from the University of Toronto in 2016. Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in Brewing Science. In addition to engaging in fascinating plant biology research on hop plants, I also have the privilege of being one of the many talented student brewers who craft the diverse styles of beer for Bishop’s Arches, which you’ll find at Doolittle’s and the Gait throughout your time on campus.
The SRC offers a myriad of services to our student members, from timeless favorites like our on-campus bar and gathering place, the Gait, to essential resources such as the Student Success Centre, offering peer-to-peer academic support. We’ve also introduced innovative initiatives like SafeDrive to ensure your safe journey home from campus, and the Menstrual Equity Project dedicated to eradicating period poverty on campus. Student clubs are managed through SRC Extra, offering a diverse array of opportunities for you to explore and find a club that resonates with you.
I hope this year brings you unforgettable experiences that you will cherish for a lifetime. If you have ideas or suggestions on how to make the coming year the best it can be, please don’t hesitate to drop by my office in MOU018 (below the Purple Pod), catch me on campus for a chat, or send an email!
Cheers,
Drew Henkel
