Hi BU!
My name is Mya Fischer and I am your 2024-2025 academic year SRC Health and Wellness Representative. I am in my last year at Bishop’s studying biology with a concentration in health science as well as completing a double minor in criminology and psychology. These programs align with my passions for healthcare, health education, and health advocacy. My various experiences within the healthcare system as well as in leadership and mentoring roles allow me to make and have informed empathetic decisions and discussions. As someone who has struggled with various physical and mental illnesses, I know how it feels to have a lack of knowledge of my own health, and how scary that can feel. I also know how it feels to see my peers struggling and not know how to help them outside of emotionally supporting them. Before going to university, we are warned of the academic and social challenges we could face, but not those related to our health and well-being. My commitment to reducing stigma, creating judgement-free learning opportunities, and promoting health services will push the school and the community toward progress and inclusivity. As the Health and Wellness Representative, I strive to actively listen to student’s opinions as well as ensure BU continues to be the home we have all come to know and love
