Hi Gaiters!
I’m excited to be representing graduate students this year as your Graduate Student Senator. I am currently completing a master’s in sociology at Bishop’s, and I also completed my undergraduate degree here between 2016 and 2021. During my undergrad, I played rugby, was an RA, studied philosophy, and developed a real appreciation for the close community that makes this campus feel different; it’s a special place.
My research focuses on the Canadian federal prison system, specifically the transparency-related challenges that incarcerated people face when trying to protect their rights behind bars. At its core, my work is about justice: how people understand their rights, how institutions respond to rights claims, and how accountability can break down when systems are difficult to see or navigate. That work has made me think a lot about transparency, accountability, and the importance of making sure people who are affected by institutions have a voice in them.
As Graduate Student Senator, my priority is to both represent and listen to the concerns of graduate students. Graduate students often balance coursework, research, work, teaching responsibilities, family commitments, and professional development, which can make it harder to feel connected to campus life. I want to help build a stronger graduate student presence at Bishop’s and make sure our concerns are part of conversations about academics, services, events, and student support.
Please feel free to reach out with concerns, ideas, questions, or just to connect. I’m looking forward to meeting more graduate students and working together to strengthen our community at Bishop’s.
