Welcome,
I am Rafiki, a Director on the Bishop’s University Student Representative Council, where I am committed to strengthening student voice, promoting accountability, and fostering an inclusive and supportive campus environment. My approach to leadership is shaped by lived experience and a deep belief in the value of community‑driven engagement.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies. My academic background and student leadership roles held in the past equip me with strong analytical skills, policy, and intercultural competence, all of which guide my work in student governance and advocacy. I am particularly passionate about ensuring that student perspectives meaningfully inform institutional decisions and that every member of our community feels represented.
Beyond my role at Bishop’s, I serve as Programs Lead at Volunteer for Peace (VPeace), where I lead initiatives focused on youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and community resilience. I also contribute internationally to promote access to education as a Global Youth Ambassador with TheirWorld and work as a multilingual interpreter and translator supporting education, resettlement, and humanitarian programs. These experiences strengthen my commitment to service, collaboration, and transformative leadership.
Fluent in English, French, Luganda, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Lingala, and Kinyabwisha, I value the power of communication to build bridges and amplify diverse voices. Above all, I prioritize ensuring that student interests are heard, supported, and championed so that every student at Bishop’s University can have a meaningful experience and become the best version of themselves.
I remain accessible to all students and the entire BU community to share ideas, seek support, or raise concerns.
