Job Title: Deputy Returning Officer
Term of Employment: September 2024 – April 2025
Expected Hours: 10-15 hours in the weeks leading up to and during SRC election periods
Salary: $1250 Honorarium
Job Summary: The Deputy Returning Officer assists the Secretary General with the overall management of the electoral and referendum processes of the SRC.
Requirements:
- Must be a full-time or part-time student, in good academic standing, at Bishop’s University, enrolled for 2024-25
- Must be in good standing with Campus Security and the Vice-Principal of Student Affairs
- Must be present at Bishop’s University from September 7, 2024 – April 30, 2025
- Must be available prior to and during the elections scheduled for September (Fall Election), February (Executive Election) and March (General Election).
Nature of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Secretary General to inform students of the opening of nominations, the beginning of the campaign period, the opening of elections, and the election results.
- Enforcing all election provisions as per the Bylaws of the SRC, Elections Policy, and Rules & Regulations of each Election.
- Ensure candidates comply with the Elections policy and other rules
- In coordination with the Manager of Communications and Engagement, promote the elections to the student body to encourage participation.
- Organizing student data and uploading for online voting (training provided).
- Complete tasks assigned by the Secretary General to carry out the obligations outlined in SRC Specific Bylaw 20.06
Skills Required:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Excel
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to understand and interpret policy rules and regulations
- Flexible and able to adjust to shifting deadlines and tasks.
- English Language – fluent verbal and written
- French communication skills are an asset.
