Hey Gaiters, I’m Sophia, your Health and Wellness Representative. I am a third-year student in
political studies and psychology, coming from Medicine Hat, Alberta.
This past year, I began to work for Bishop’s Sexual Asssault and Healing Support group (SASH), and with the safety services on-campus. Before that, I served as the Vice-Chair of my hometown’s Youth Advisory Board, and this catalysed my passion for improving the well-being of the community, which is my role as your representative.
I chose to be the Health and Wellness representative because my areas of interest are mental health and well-being, resources and healing for sexual assault survivors, and community engagement. In approaching this role, my priorities are to engage with students to teach them how to engage with the available health resources, as well as promoting the importance of taking care of yourself. I believe our University should be a safe and inclusive place for every student, that fosters an open-minded and conscientious culture surrounding mental health, and healthy living and eating… to lessen the burden of choosing between excelling in your classes and taking care of yourself.
With that being said, you can reach out to me anytime by email to discuss any of the issues I
mentioned or anything on your mind regarding health and wellness, and together, we will take a
solution-focused approach to improve the standards for health and wellness in the Bishop’s
community. Here is to a great year!
Sophia
